Vintage Diet Soda Bottle

Wow! Wouldn’t that be great! Drink a diet soda and the pounds will miraculously fall off your body. There is no greater myth than the diet soda myth. That doesn’t mean to go ahead and drink regular soda and things will change. The big marketing departments at corporate soda maker headquarters know the public buys into this myth so they continue to sell diet sodas hand over fist. And, for your benefit, they have now added vitamins to this drink. (????)

My opinion is that there is no room in a healthy lifestyle for soda or any additionally sweetened beverage.

You can have a huge impact on your health and weight by eliminating this one food item.

Let’s do the math:

A traditional can of soda as approximately 140 calories per 12 oz serving. If you had just one can a day (and soda drinkers know you tend to drink way  more than one can per day) you would consume 980 calories per week; 50,960 calories per year.

1 can        =    140 calories

7 days      = 980 calories

1 year      = 51,000 calories

51,000 extra calories per year translates to 15 extra pounds per year.

Are you willing to not put on an extra 15 lbs by eliminating sweetened beverages from your daily behaviors?

OK, I know where you’re going. You’re going to tell me that diet soda has no calories. Calories, or no calories, sweetened beverages sipped throughout the day disrupts the ability for the brain to properly receive messages from the digestive system that it’s full. So, sweetened beverage drinkers tend to overeat at mealtime and when snacking as opposed to drinkers of unsweetened drinks.

And, about all of those great vitamins being added to sodas:
The carbonation in soda leaches calcium from the bones of the body due to the body pulling calcium from the bones to help neutralize the acids in the stomach caused by the soda. The aspartame used in the soda is a poison to the body causing many side-effects; the tap water used may contain various unknown chemicals; and, the caffeine causes jitters, palpitaions, etc.  So, are the vitamins supposed to combat all of these negative doings? STOP. PUT DOWN THAT CAN OF SODA!

Here are some healthy alternatives:

Water (filtered, from a reliable source)

Water with sliced lemon or lime or cucumber (yum), wedge of orange, etc.
Herbal Teas – warm and iced are both delicious. No need for sugar, honey, etc.

Are you a soda drinker?
I challenge you to cut back on your consumption with the goal to be complete elimination.
This one change in your eating philosophy can have a major positive impact on your level of health and fitness.
